You will serve in the position of Orthopedic Technician providing direct patient care and provider support in the clinic areas that Specialty Care Clinics support. The position is located in Specialty Care Clinics, Outpatient Nursing Service, at the Mann-Grandstaff VA Medical Center located in Spokane, Washington. To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement, 03/22/2023. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-06 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-05. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. Assists patients in positioning for procedures using any lifts, turns and devices that may be applicable for the patient. Performs a range of diagnostic support duties which include taking, recording, and reporting to their supervisor/provider deviations in vital signs, including pain valuation using a 1-10 scale or a behavioral indicator scale. Verifies pre-packing of all sterile items and assures package integrity and sterility of kits, and the expiration date is current. Handles all specimen collection and pathological labeling of biopsied specimens, and functions as primary scrub person on all procedures. Responsible for the taking of surgical grade pictures of lesion site/location and then documenting and downloading into electronic health record (EHR) and labeling of images for patient records per provider. Responsible for daily maintenance and filling of Liquid Nitrogen canister for patient cryotherapy treatment. Performs EKGs on all cardiology patients with/without magnet per provider direction. Instructs patients and families in post procedure care using standard information sheets per provider instruction. Operates Bladder Volume Index (BVI) machines and performs urine testing.
