Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Senior Molecular Technologist.
This individual will be responsible for routine molecular testing including sample processing, nucleic acid extractions and traditional PCR assay procedures. This individual will also be responsible for routine methylation, DNA Sequencing and Next-Generation Sequencing. Other responsibilities, as directed by the supervisor, lab manager and/or asst. director, include quality control, instrument maintenance, troubleshooting cases, QA, validations and development of new tests and training.
Job Responsibilities:
- Performs sample processing of molecular laboratory tests and procedures. Including Methylation, DNA sequencing, and Next generation sequencing laboratory testing.
- Performs purification and extraction of nucleic acids using automated and manual methods.
- Performs automated and manual PCR reactions, properly operates and programs the PCR and sequencing machines and analyzers.
- Performs validations and development of new Molecular Assays.
- Follows approved policies and procedures in performing specific methodologies and instrument operations and follows approved policies for proper recording and reporting of results.
- Responsible for the maintenance, validation, and troubleshooting of all equipment in molecular pathology.
- Complete assigned proficiency and competency assessments.
- Maintain sufficient inventory and testing supplies in work area, including ordering if directed by lead or supervisor.
- Enters Patient Safety Intelligence (PSI) as required.
- Participates in the training of new molecular technologists/residents at the direction of lead technologists or supervisor.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
NYSDOH Licensed as a Certified Clinical Laboratory Technologist (or restricted in Molecular).
Bachelor's Degree in Clinical Laboratory Technology from a program registered by the NYS Department of Education or Bachelor's Degree in the major of biology, chemistry or physical sciences from an accredited college or university.
4 years' experience in a clinical molecular laboratory and 1 year of NGS and/or DNA sequencing experience.
Effective Interpersonal and Communication skills required.
