Job Summary and Qualifications
The Group Quality Director is responsible for implementation of the Laboratory Service Line quality and performance improvement programs in assigned group(s). Applies quality and performance improvement approaches to identify and quantify improvement opportunities, facilitate and organization process improvement efforts, drive improvement, and measure outcomes. Supervises Quality Coordinators in assigned divisions.
Responsibilities include laboratory regulatory agency accreditation preparedness, tracking and reporting of specific information; auditing and analysis of processes and systems; statistical analysis of data; formulation of recommendations; and creation of written and verbal reports. The position also requires skills for developing and presenting related training programs for laboratory colleagues and for preparing presentations to and for management.
The position covers the respective Group with the expectation of travel to divisions and may be facility-based or work from home depending on need. Travel expectancy is 20-30%.
In This Role You Will:
- Deploy the laboratory clinical quality infrastructure across the assigned division(s)
- Partnering with leaders to identify and coordinate implementation of continual improvement projects to improve quality performance
- Facilitating the growth of vision of laboratory quality and performance, including the dissemination of "best practices" across the company
- Leading regional process improvement initiatives, providing feedback on standardization opportunities, and evaluating success through pre-established criteria
- Assisting with appropriate and timely response to Serious Patient Adverse Events (SPAE)s that involve laboratory operations
- Leading proactive laboratory quality and safety activities to create hospital laboratories that are highly reliable as reflected in reduced errors, elimination of unsafe processes, and increased involvement of staff and pathology medical directors toward a culture of safety
- Contributing to the achievement of laboratory business and financial goals through optimal division and group performance in quality and patient safety
- Interfacing with appropriate personnel at HCA to leverage corporate resources, programs, tools and methodologies for benefit of hospital laboratories
- Collaborating with and supporting hospital quality, risk, safety and infections prevention leaders to achieve top ranking in national and state publicly reported data initiatives
- Participating in regular analysis of laboratory quality and risk performance data, and planning steps for ongoing improvement
- Working with Corporate and Division medical leaders to support data analysis, reporting, process and outcomes improvement. Contributing to ongoing enhancement of enterprise quality reporting methods and dashboards
- Continuously monitoring and evaluating quality outcomes across the group and divisions, while noting trends, and identifying and prioritizing opportunities to improve
- Assisting divisions in building proactive quality department by implementing processes to support accreditation and regulatory inspections
- Facilitating and/or lead process improvement teams as needed to achieve quality improvement goals
- Serving as a regulatory resources regarding state and federal regulations and standards, including but not limited to CMS, CLIA, CAP, and TJC
- Demonstrate personal responsibility for professional development, and promoting and supporting laboratory quality leaders and division data analysis
- Promoting a culture that is positive, values individual strengths, takes risks, and is committed to optimal patient care, and compliance with standards
- Attending HCA-mandated training and meeting all ethics and compliance standards and requirements
- Developing and implementing projects as directed by AVP, Quality and CLO
What qualifications you will need:
- Bachelor's Degree in a clinical laboratory, chemical, biological science or related field is required
- Master's Degree in a related field is preferred
- 3+ years of experience in quality improvement is required
- 1+ years of experience in clinical lab is preferred
- Management experience is preferred
- Previous experience within a multi facility environment is preferred
- clinical licensure, laboratory medical technology or RN is preferred
- Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ)
