SUMMARY OF POSITION:

The medical laboratory technician, under minimal supervision, is responsible for independently performing complex laboratory tests on blood, body fluids, cells, and tissues that includes standardized microscopic, chemical, and/or bacteriological testing. All testing is performed in accordance with laboratory policies and procedures, FDA, CAP, OSHA, CLIA, and Joint Commission regulations and guidelines. Test results are used in the diagnosis, treatment. and prevention of disease. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION(S):

Associates degree for Medical Laboratory Technician or bachelor's degree in a chemical, physical, or biological science from an accredited institution required. 

Eligible to take the ASCP Board of Review exam for Medical Laboratory Technician, American Society of Clinical Pathology, (MLT(ASCP)) Certification. 

MLT (ASCPCM) Certification must be obtained within six (6) months of hire in order to retain position.
