The Benjamin lab studies how inflammatory injury during development alters critical biological processes and cell-extracellular matrix interactions leading to short and longer-term deficits in lung structure and function. We seek an analytical, critical thinking, self-driven staff scientist to join our team. The staff scientist will be responsible for conducting cutting edge bench research and coordinating collaborative projects while also contributing to training of students and postdoctoral fellows in the laboratory.
Independently oversee research projects and perform near to totally independent research.
Supervise, plan, design and implement research projects.
Develop reports of results, graphs, etc. of research findings.
Contribute to writing, reviewing, and editing material for publication
Present research findings at local and national meetings.
Assist Principal Investigator (PI) in writing research grants.
Supervise other laboratory staff.
Mentor graduate students and post-doctoral fellows and help them to develop their projects and learn specific techniques and protocols.
Train and supervise technical staff, and students
Make recommendations to PI regarding supply and equipment needs for research projects.
Develop methods and procedures for operation of scientific equipment.
1. Education: Doctorate/PhD 2. Minimum 2 years of related experience
The ideal candidate will have:
PhD in developmental biology, cell and molecular biology, genetics, immunology, or related fields and a minimum of a year of post-graduate experience with a good publication record. Candidates with an MS with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience and excellent publication record will also be considered.
Well versed in the practice of routine laboratory techniques in histology, biochemistry and protein characterization. Prior training and/or expertise in bioinformatics including single cell and bulk RNAseq analysis will be helpful.
Excellent organization skills, excellent written and oral communication skills, the ability to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines in a timely manner.
