Performs quality control, patient test procedures, results verification, and specimen collection/transportation in CLIAA certified "high complexity" laboratory. Provides logistical support to laboratory operations. Manages patient electronic medical record databases in multiple laboratory information systems. Applies practical knowledge of phlebotomy, chemistry, biology, analysis methods, scientific instrument engineering, and anatomy principles in the performance of duties. To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement, 05/20/2022. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-06 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-05. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. You may qualify based on your experience as described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-05 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Technical medical laboratory support work such as performing laboratory tests and examinations (chemical, microbiologic, hematologic and blood banking) and preparing reports of findings or technical support work in a closely related field, e.g., biological laboratory technician work, that required application of the methods and techniques for the position to be filled. Preferred Experience: Medical Laboratory Technician Certification obtained through written examination by a nationally recognized credentialing agency or State licensing body (i.e., AMT, ASCP), from a Health and Human Services approved accreditation organization for laboratory educational programs. The work environment is well lighted, ventilated, and temperature regulated. Computer screens and keyboards are used extensively. ["Major Duties Include: Operates elaborate multi-platform analyzers and performs. complex manual step-by-step examinations independently. Work assignments encompass the full range of analysis and require duties to be carried out in multiple laboratory disciplines concurrently, including: clinical chemistry, toxicology, drug monitoring, urinalysis, hematology, microscopy, hematology, cell differentials, serology, and rapid enzyme immunoassay techniques. Correlates analyzer results to medical record results and patient condition prior to releasing data. Tracks test result tum-around-times, pending patient reports, and incomplete referral laboratory testing to meet consistency expectations of the medical teams. Designs and uses spreadsheets for data collection. Documents preventive maintenance, troubleshooting actions, quality assurance reviews, statistics, and other data. Prepares specimens for transportation, insuring that the physiologic integrity is preserved for the time period require. Ensures that specimens meet an acceptable standard of quality before proceeding with testing and makes adjustments based on assessments of specimen integrity. Uses judgment to identify and attend to discrepancies in collection, processing, or handling of specimens. Creates specimen manifests and ensures transportation according to biological and dangerous goods safety regulations. Communicates ideas for improving Laboratory problems or inconsistencies. Makes suggestions for process improvements based on cause and effect analysis of \"near misses\", observation of non-conforming events, and inconsistent outcomes. Participates in projects, such as, but not limited to: assay conversions, procedure writing, process improvement pilot studies, data collection, and validation studies. Maintains professional currency through continuing educational opportunities and training. Insures the adequacy of the scientific principles are applied in the performance of required tests.
