This Supervisory Medical Technologist position falls under the Pathology & Laboratory Medicine Service at the Jamaica Plain Campus of VA Boston Healthcare System. The incumbent at this level has full supervisory responsibility of a large staff of nonsupervisory personnel Medical Technologist's, and at least 1 subordinate team leader at the next lower grade level. This supervisor recommends appointment, plans, and assigns work, gives technical advice and counsel, and evaluates the technical day to day work of staff they oversee. Is responsible for monitoring test analyses and specimen examinations to ensure acceptable levels of performance. Assures corrective action is initiated for all technical, personnel and patient related issues. Assures orientation, training, and competency assessment of assigned staff is accurate and up to date. Develops and updates technical policy and procedure manuals. Ensures all staff and affiliate staff meet the regulatory requirements of all pertinent accrediting and regulating bodies. Adjusts staffing levels and/or work procedures to accommodate resource allocation decisions made at the executive level.
