The Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist (DRT), is assigned to the Alexandria VAHCS (AVAHCS), Radiology Service. The DRT provide support and services in Diagnostic Radiology to both inpatients and outpatients under the direction of a physician. Duties include, but are not limited to: Operating both mobile and fixed radiology equipment; Assist the radiologist in fluoroscopic procedures as part of the diagnostic plan for patients; Operates digital radiography (DR), computed radiography (CR), and conventional radiography and fluoroscopy equipment with accuracy in producing optimal imaging examinations. Adjusts technical factors to optimize image quality. Responsible for diagnostic quality of images produced; Performs radiographic exams at the bedside and in the operating rooms providing diagnostic x-rays to the surgeons and professional staff on patients that are unable to be x-rayed in the Radiology Service due to incapacity or surgical procedures; Prepares procedure tray with supplies, solutions and medications indicated for specific procedures, per established protocol; Ensures labeling of all solutions is performed with required documentation; Provides patient education about procedures, gives directions, and answering questions, if any. Performs screening process for the safe application of contrast administration, obtaining informed consent as criteria mandate. Obtains applicable lab values prior to contrast administration; Applies appropriate IV solutions to maintain venous access for contrast injection; Monitors patients' physiologic changes during procedures and keeps radiologists informed; Complies with all Policy regarding infection control practices pertaining to pre-cleaning and cleaning processing of RMEs. Cleans and disinfects all RME according to manufacturing guidelines and VHA operating standards associated with RME; Documents appropriately, in the patient record, the accurate events regarding treatment of the Veteran during procedures. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00 am - 4:30 pm, will be on call evenings and weekends. Tour may be adjusted to meet staffing needs. Financial Disclosure Report: Not required
