The Medical Technologist (MT) will serve in the Pathology & Laboratory Medicine Service at G.V Montgomery VA Medical Center in Jackson, MS. The work performed is in a variety of laboratory disciplines such as Microbiology, Molecular Microbiology, and Laboratory Client Services. ***If you are not a Current Permanent Federal Employee, apply to Vacancy CBST-11078397-21-LA*** Duties performed include, but are not limited to the following: Performs a broad range of laboratory procedures including all testing and tasks of the medical laboratory technology occupation. In addition, performs advanced and complex procedures in Microbiology/Molecular Pathology Section; recognizes deviations from expected results; analyzes and corrects problems using scientific principles; Responsible for pre-analytical steps of receiving specimens from various sources and assessing specimen quality and acceptability for performing various tests including but not limited to PCR, culture set up, and specimen testing/analysis; Maintains and documents the optimal functioning of laboratory equipment and immediately informs the Section Supervisor of any deviations or malfunctions; Uses, calibrates, repairs and performs preventative maintenance of laboratory equipment; Performs a full range of Molecular Pathology, and Molecular Microbiology testing Bacteriology, and Serology tests; Performs COVID-19 testing on all available platforms to include instrument/test validation/verification, IQCP, specimen assessment, specimen testing, quality control, review of validity of result data, and correlates information to report results or perform additional testing to confirm abnormality of results; Performs and documents quality control to assure reagents, equipment, humidity and temperatures are within recommended guidelines; Reviews and correlates analytical data to verify validity and accuracy of findings and accurately verifies laboratory test results using laboratory data processing software or laboratory SOPs; Incorporates principles of educational methodologies in the instruction and training of new employees, students, Pathology residents, and clinicians on theoretical and practical aspects of test performance. Performs other related duties as assigned. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 7:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. (Subject to change based upon agency needs) Financial Disclosure Report: Not required This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application.
