Current permanent VA and other federal employees should apply under CBST-10929017-20-HC. This position is located in the Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Service at the Southeast Louisiana Veterans Healthcare System in New Orleans, LA. This is an open continuous announcement. Applicants will be referred on a weekly to bi-weekly basis. This job announcement will close once the vacancy is filled. Duties include but are not limited to: Serves as primary operator of the Flow Cytometer in the Hematology Laboratory. Serves as the primary assistant with retrieval of bone marrow samples. Assumes responsibility to maintain and document operations including preventive maintenance, calibration, quality assurance and quality control. Assures orientation, training, and competency assessment of all staff. Maintains records of employee's evaluation and training. Assures the Flow Cytometry Section meets the standards of the various accreditation agencies such as the College of American Pathologists (CAP), the Joint Commission (TJC), and other inspection entities. Coordinates the laboratory competency program, the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Act (CLIA) laboratory proficiency/survey program for the Flow Cytometry system. Performs, reports, and evaluates results of proficiency testing. Analyzes outliers, investigates cause, and provides corrective actions. During CAP and/or Joint Commission inspections the incumbent represents Flow Cytometry and answers any checklist questions and provides any requested testing policies and/or procedures and have documentation readily available for review. Also, is able to inspect other Flow Cytometry laboratories. Serves as a recognized regulatory expert and provides authoritative consultative services to management at all levels of the organization. Recommends updated guidelines and policies in compliance with regulatory requirements for non-routine or complex assignments. Develops and assist in writing procedures and other documents as needed or directed. Helps develop and assist with validation protocols. Performs all required validation and correlation procedures. Performs and monitors specialized testing and evaluates results for accuracy. Assures corrective action is initiated when test performance deviates from established performance specifications. Identifies discrepancies, solves problems, and presents solutions. Adheres to practices and regulations governing biosafety and biosecurity in the workplace. Recommends alternate testing to overcome ambiguities in the clinical diagnoses. Keep abreast of emerging trends and technology and adopts appropriate methods and testing. Other hematological testing may be added as needed Additional Duties as assigned. Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 7:30am-4:00pm Occasional Weekends. Subject to change based on agency needs.
