We are looking for highly specialized Medical Technologists with excellent diagnostic skills for opportunities in our Blood Bank and Hematology areas.

You are also active listeners, just who we need to thoroughly answer patients’ inquiries regarding test results, and making recommendations to reduce anxiety, increase understanding, and develop their trust. In our multidisciplinary setting, you will take on the important role of providing the highest quality, and most effective laboratory service to our patients. Working in your designated discipline (Blood Bank or Hematology), you will:
Conduct and oversee a broad range of routine and complex laboratory procedures including analyzing blood samples and identifying white or red blood cell abnormalities
Help ensure an adequate supply of blood and blood products for transfusion across the hospital system
Perform all laboratory tests and procedures including reading slides, ABO/Rh typing, crossmatch, antibody screening, and blood component issuance, as well as preventative maintenance
Ensure facilities, supplies, equipment and resources are well utilized
Follow standard procedures for specimen collection, processing, test analysis and results reporting, considering physiologic processes and requirements
Verify accuracy of findings, identify test inconsistencies, and take appropriate action to make corrections
Execute CAP and NYSDOH proficiency testing
Participate in QA/QC reviews and prepare reports and other documents required by administrative and medical staff
Utilize LIS for reporting, documenting QC and distribution of data
These positions require:
A Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology (MT) in related area, or equivalent physical sciences
Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a clinical laboratory or blood bank/hematology, within a hospital or high-level research setting
NYS License as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist; ASCP preferred
Effective communication and interpersonal skills with excellent attention to detail
Computer proficiency; LIS a plus
Ability to work in a collaborative environment
An analytical mindset and good problem-solving skills
Ability to communicate, consult and interact with other members of the healthcare team
