Job Summary: The Department of Radiology is recruiting a fellowship-trained physician with strong leadership skills, high integrity, and a strong commitment to professionalism to join and lead our team as the Director, Division of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging. Appointment rank is commensurate with experience.
The Division Director is responsible for oversight and management of the clinical, educational, and research activities of the Division. The Division of Nuclear Medicine provides clinical care on our main campus at the University Hospital and attached CS Mott Children’s Hospital. Division resources include 2 clinical whole-body PET/CT (Siemens mCT), a dedicated research PET/CT (Siemens Biograph TruePoint), 4 SPECT/CT (Siemens Symbia-T16) and 4 SPECT Siemens Symbia-S tomography units. The Division has additional resources for clinical monitoring and radiotherapeutic infusions. We have integrated clinical and research resources in our Cyclotron/PET Radiochemistry Laboratory for nuclide production (2 GE PETtrace cyclotrons), radiotracer syntheses (13 Comecer hot cells) and associated cGMP resources for production of tracers for human use. The laboratory is fully equipped for preclinical research including biodistribution and animal imaging capabilities. Additional hardware resources can be pursued for the appropriate candidate.
Our Nuclear Medicine faculty supervise and interpret diagnostic PET/CT imaging with use of 18F-FDG, 18F-Axumin, 68Ga-DOTATATE, 68Ga-PSMA-11, and a complete range of single-photon diagnostic studies with emphasis on SPECT/CT hybrid imaging applications. Radiotherapies with oral Na131I and parenteral 131I-MIBG, 223RaCl2, 90Y-Zevalin and 177Lu-DOTATATE are routinely performed.
Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging is one of 9 clinical divisions, which together with our robust basic science division, form the Department of Radiology faculty. With approximately 150 faculty, we consistently rank near the top nationally in NIH funding, post-graduate radiology education programs, and in the U.S. News & World Report rankings of top hospitals. The Division provides training for fellows and our diagnostic radiology residents.
Responsibilities include leading and inspiring a diverse team, conducting outstanding collaborative clinical care, teaching a spectrum of learners (medical students, residents, fellows, and faculty), and performing innovative research. We have many ongoing research programs within the Division and Department, some of which involve close collaboration with our own Basic Sciences Division, and with colleagues across Michigan Medicine and the University of Michigan campus. The University of Michigan Medical School has the largest group of health services researchers in the United States at our Institute for Healthcare Policy & Innovation, and an excellent Faculty Development Program. The University of Michigan has been rated the best public university in the country and across-the-spectrum excellence is present in areas such as Business, Engineering, Arts and Sciences, Arts and Sciences; innumerable opportunities for collaboration are available.
The Michigan Medicine Medical Campus is connected to both the Medical School and greater University campus. Ann Arbor is consistently rated as one of the nation’s top cities in which to live, work, and play, and is a community ranked highly for raising a family. The city is culturally rich and provides excellent educational options for children. Faculty enjoy attending diverse cultural activities in music, theater, art and athletic events offered across campus. Detroit Metropolitan Airport, a Delta Airlines hub, is approximately half an hour away, which provides non-stop flights to most U.S. and many international destinations.
Required Qualifications: The applicant must have an M.D. or equivalent, completed an ACGME-accredited residency in Nuclear Medicine or is an ABR/ABNM diplomate with certification in Nuclear Medicine, and able to obtain a medical license in the State of Michigan. Evidence of clinical, teaching, research, and leadership competence is expected.
