This position is for a Histopathology Technician located within the Martin Army Community Hospital, Fort Benning, GA. Martin Army Community Hospital was opened in 1958 and is named in honor of the late Major General Joseph I. Martin, Medical Corps. Fort Benning's MEDDAC, a major subordinate command of the U.S. Army Medical Command, furnishes medical care to an eligible patient population in excess of 72,000 beneficiaries.
Prepare tissue slides for microscopic examination by pathologists.
Prepare technically adequate slides of tissue sections by processing tissue biopsies embedding tissue in paraffin, cutting, staining, and coverslipping.
Assure the proper handling and processing of tissue samples to be examined for special procedures.
Conduct quality control checks in the preparation of frozen tissue sections.
Perform special stains as requested to show various normal and abnormal tissue.
Select appropriate tissue staining procedures to be submitted for microscopic examination.
Maintain accurate records on all tissue, blocks, and slides removed from files, loaned out of the department to make sure all slides are counted.
