Exciting Opportunity in The Land of Enchantmentto Provide a Service to Those Who Have Served: The New Mexico Veterans Administration Health Care System (NMVAHCS) Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Service (P&LMS) in Albuquerque NM is seeking a highly motivated and talented Medical Technologist with excellent communication and interpersonal skills to serve as Laboratory Manager/Chief Medical Technologist. This position is responsible for managing the operations of a robust multidisciplinary clinical laboratory with approximately 2.4 million tests performed annually by a staff of 66 employees and 4 full-time AP/CP pathologists.
The candidate selected will possess excellent organizational skills and demonstrate above average judgement, discretion, critical thinking, and technical skill; highly effective communication, management, and staff mentoring abilities; strong team building and collaborative skills; and the ability to cultivate excellent working relationships with other departments, medical staff, and hospital committees.
Ensuring laboratory meets all regulatory standards set by CLIA, CAP, VHA, TJC, FDA, DOT, AABB and other governing agencies, while fulfilling the mission of the VA to provide world-class care to Veterans and their families
Planning budgets and overseeing successful, timely completion of contracting, procurement, and resource management processes to ensure continuity and quality of services
Establishing and maintaining effective quality assurance and quality monitoring programs
Evaluating and assessing staffing needs; recommending staff appointment; planning and assigning work
Oversight of new employee training, staff competency, continuing education, performance evaluations, and maintenance of personnel records
Oversight of laboratory safety, chemical hygiene, and emergency management programs; ensuring on-going staff education
Assessing and evaluating adequacy of test offerings, employing electronic resources to extract and analyze data to make informed decisions
Assisting with development of new and revised policies and procedures
Serving as a consultant to local, network, and national program officials
Effectively coordinate clinical rotations for MT and MLT students
The Raymond G. Murphy VA Medical Center, a level 1 tertiary referral center with 24-hour Emergency Department, is authorized to operate at 310 beds and is home to a large outpatient ambulatory care center providing over 650,000 annual visits. Comprised of the Medical Center and thirteen community based outpatient clinics located throughout New Mexico and southwestern Colorado, the NMVAHCS provides care for 60,000 Veterans. NMVAHCS is affiliated with and serves as a clinical training site for several teaching institutions including the University of New Mexico (UNM) School of Medicine and UNM Clinical Laboratory Sciences programs. We are associated with a network of eight consolidated VA clinical laboratories in Southern California, Arizona and New Mexico known as the Veterans Integrated Service Network (VISN) 22 Consolidated Pathology & Laboratory Services headquartered in San Diego, CA.
$87,547.00 to $113,812.00 / per year with up to $10,000 relocation bonus available.

Education and/or Experience.
Bachelor's Degree in Medical Laboratory Science or equivalent degree
Minimum of 4+ years' experience as a Clinical Laboratory Supervisor preferred
Certification. For the Medical Technologist (Laboratory Manager) GS-13, an above the full performance level position, candidates MUST currently possess the appropriate certification as either a MT, MLS, or CLS given by the ASCP-BOC, ASCP-BOR, or AMT
