GALA Cytology Lab, a physician owned and rapidly growing cytology lab focused on women’s health, is seeking a full-time General Supervisor for Cytology and Molecular services. The lab utilizes the Hologic ThinPrep Pap test and Aptima platform. This position will report to the Medical Director and VPO and works closely with the GALA Cytology team.
In the absence of the director and technical supervisor, the general supervisor must be responsible for the proper performance of all laboratory procedures and reporting of test results.
The General Supervisor is responsible for daily operations, planning, coordinating, and supervising all of the functions within the laboratory, including testing, staffing, training, scheduling, budgeting, maintaining supplies, and relating with department administration, other labs, and physicians; ensures that services are of the best quality, are cost contained, and are carried out in an expeditious manner.
Responsible for recognizing results or problems that require referral to the Technical Supervisor and/or Medical Director.
Is accessible to testing personnel at all times testing is performed to provide on-site, telephone, or electronic support.
Provides day-to day supervision of personnel performing high complexity testing.
Monitors test results and specimen examinations to ensure that acceptable levels of analytic performances are maintained.
Oversees all QA/QC activities and proficiency testing.
Fulfills responsibilities delegated by the Technical Supervisor.
Provides orientation and training to all testing personnel.
Annually evaluating and documenting the performance of all testing personnel (competency assessment).
Maintains adequate staffing and provides staff development.
Schedules and monitors work flow.
Validates and implements new procedures and equipment; writes/updates SOPs.
Maintains inventory and orders supplies for the lab and physicians.
Ensures compliance with company policies/procedures and other regulatory agencies.
Works collaboratively with the team to deliver patient/physician services that meet or exceed the patient and physicians expectations.
Medium work of lifting up to 50 pounds and/or carrying objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
Responsible for lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling objects.
Long periods of standing/sitting.
Frequent contact with water (hand washing and cleaning).
Contact with hazardous body fluids, and hazardous chemicals.
Contact with moving instrumentation.
Bachelor’s degree in a related science or Bachelor’s degree in Cytotechnology and completion of an approved cytology training program from a CAAHEP accredited school (Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs). Before September 1, 1994 have met the requirements of a cytotechnologist according CLIA.
Must be currently certified by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists CT(ASCP).
Demonstration of a passing score of (90%) for all Cytology Proficiency Testing events while ASCP certified as a cytotechnologist.
Candidate must have had at least 5 years of continuous full time experience as a Cytotechnologist within the preceding 10 years. At least two years of working experience as a Supervisor
Must have proven leadership, interpersonal, communication, and computer skills.
Must be able to problem solve and multitask at a high level.
ThinPrep morphology and RSMP training/certification required.
Previous experience with the Hologic Panther and Aptima molecular assays are a plus.
Experience with EMR/LIS interfaces are a plus.
