This position as a Medical Technologist (MRSA Advanced Staff Technologist) is located in the Molecular Section of the Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Service. Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

The technologist performs all of the testing responsibilities of the GS-9 MT/CLS in the MolecularDepartment.
Utilizes independent technical judgment to analyze and interpret laboratory results.
Interprets and applies complex written instructions.
Communicates, consults and interacts with other members of the healthcare team, external relations, customer service, and patient education.
Selects, performs, evaluates and monitors the performance of test procedures using manual and/or instrumental techniques in accordance with established protocols. Recognizes and reacts to indicators of malfunction; locates and implements corrections.
Verifies correct instrument operation using established procedures and quality control checks and monitoring. Identifies the cause of common problems and makes simple repairs.
Evaluates the validity of data in relation to the test system and accepted assay procedures. Correlates quantitative data with patient data (i.e., history, medications) to verify results.
Performs additional tests to clarify or confirm abnormal patient results. Recognizes abnormal results that require immediate attention by the physician and reports them directly to the providers and follow the proper Medical Center policies in record keeping.
Responsible for generation of laboratory results from the work area into the laboratory computer system and for the editing and verification of the results recorded into the computer system.
Communicates effectively and courteously while working as a healthcare team member. Provides excellent service as defined by the customer (healthcare providers, patients and others). Gives direction and guidance using underlying principles of laboratory testing.
Recognizes Critical/Toxic and other unusual test results and alerts Clinician or provider with appropriate documentation.
o The incumbent will be responsible to review and/or revise MRSA procedure annually.
o The incumbent will notify employees of changes to MRSA procedures.
o The incumbent will order MRSA reagents utilizing established PO to maintain adequate inventory.
o The incumbent will ensure parallel QC is performed on new lot/shipments.
o The incumbent will prepare QI data for MRSA to ensure maintenance of carrier rates and turn-around-times.
o The incumbent will prepare MRSA budget for MRSA hospital co-ordinator.
o The incumbent will communicate with all areas of hospital on MRSA questions, changes and concerns.
o The incumbent will perform 6 month correlation between 2LC2.0 instruments.
o The incumbent will perform 6 month color compensation for MRSA
o The incumbent will communicate with MRSA coordinator regarding any issues that arise from nursing staff.
o The incumbent is in charge of MSDS sheets up updating and maintaining on excel sheet.
o The incumbent will work with safety (GMS) to ensure chemicals are disposed of properly.
o The incumbent will be the CheckPoint Administrator for Molecular Pathology
o The incubant will be responsible to stain , read and interpret FISH slides..
o The incumbent will have the knowledge to trouble shoot problems that arise and communicate any issues with outside labs we perform FISH testing.
o The incumbent will gather FISH QI data.
